Information Graphics

I found this graphic image of the world map unique and appealing as i like the way that the world map is made up of rectangles with the majority of them are the same colour. I also like that the countries are all labelled. I think that the map lacks in colour. Instead of having dark colours of grey, it should have a variety of different colours. Even though the map is labelled, it is not fully labelled as the names of the countries do not appear on the image. I find this image easy to understand, as my first impression of the image was the world map. I think that this image would work for an advertisement. For example, the advert for ‘HSBC the world's local bank’ advert, the ending is the world map.

This image is a calendar for June 2010. The first thing i noticed on the image is the promotion of the Fifa 2010 World Cup. I like positions of all the images for the calendar, which has the World cup logo on the top right corner of the calendar, the football boot on the top left corner and the football at the bottom in the right corner. The Apple logo is centred with the South Africa flag as the background. Finally the background of the whole calendar is grass from a football pitch which i think is a excellent idea to have. I think that the positioning of the logo should not have been put there and to me the logo looks petite. I would have printed the logo onto the football on the white sections. Overall, this does promote the World Cup very well.

This image displays information on the world’s largest artificial island and tallest buildings. I think that the image is presented on this image is brilliant. There is lots of information on where the island and buildings are situated. The one object i would change about the information is, the column of writing on the right hand side. I would adjust the background colour and writing instead of using the basic black and white.

This image displays information about aircrafts that fly inside of the North Atlantic organized track system. The information that it shows is the halfway point, position check, getting in line and the safety envelope. It also displays the flight levels. I like the way it shows a zoomed up image of the plane that explains the safety envelope. Underneath the track, it also shows the track when flying over the North Atlantic and information ‘East into the night’. I find the red text highlight colour and the white text makes the subtitles difficult to read and would change the colours of that. In general, the image and the information is really good, easy to read and it is labelled well.

This is a poster from the World Health Organization which explains how the combination of unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene can kill 200 people in an hour. I like the layout of this reminds me of the game ‘operation’ the way certain things are highlighted and pieces can be taken away. The poster also shows shocking information about what countries have safe water, water problems in the Unites States and waterborne diseases. A simple human frame is placed in the centre of the poster, which highlights what poor water can do to the human body. I think is very effective and simple to understand, especially for people who don’t know what it can do. It gives you facts and figures on the layout of this poster which i think is effective cause it will make people stunned and anxious. I dislike the writing and the background as they are similar colours which for me, makes the text hard to read. I also don’t like how the some writing overlaps the centre image and how the bottom right image overlaps a part of the centre image. Overall, this poster is very useful with effective information and helpful images.
